Bangladesh's AQI calculation encompasses five key pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
The city of Dhaka has been grappling with air pollution challenges for a considerable time. The air quality tends to worsen during winter and improves during the monsoon season.
Global health studies consistently rank air pollution as a top contributor to death and disability.
Breathing polluted air heightens the risk of heart disease, chronic respiratory illnesses, lung infections, and cancer, as numerous studies have confirmed.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately seven million lives are claimed annually worldwide due to air pollution.
This is primarily due to increased mortality from conditions such as stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections.
The deteriorating air quality in Dhaka raises serious concerns about the well-being and survival of its residents.
