A federal judge in Louisiana has issued a restriction on certain branches of the Biden administration, preventing them from engaging in communication or meetings with social media platforms regarding content moderation on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Judge Terry A. Doughty, presiding over the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, has prohibited agencies like the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services from flagging social media posts and accounts.

However, exceptions were made for cases involving national security threats and criminal activity.

This ruling was prompted by a lawsuit filed by Republican attorneys general from Louisiana and Missouri.

They alleged that government officials, while claiming to combat misinformation, had colluded with social media platforms to silence conservative voices and perspectives.

The lawsuit specifically referred to the removal of posts discussing the COVID pandemic and Hunter Biden's laptop.

According to the attorneys general (AGs) in their court documents, they claimed that the violations of the First Amendment were the most severe in the history of the United States of America.

A representative from the White House mentioned that the Department of Justice is currently examining the court's injunction and will assess the available courses of action.

Government officials have asserted that their efforts to curb harmful misinformation were aimed at minimizing COVID-related fatalities.

They have also emphasized that they regularly inform social media companies about illicit activities, including human trafficking and terrorism.

In a statement, an official stated, "This administration has actively advocated for responsible measures to safeguard public health, safety, and national security in the face of challenges such as a deadly pandemic and foreign interference in our elections.

We maintain a consistent standpoint that social media platforms bear a significant responsibility to acknowledge the impact their platforms have on the American people while retaining autonomy in making decisions regarding the information they disseminate."

Judge Doughty, in the injunction, acknowledged the evidence presented by Louisiana and Missouri, indicating a substantial endeavor by the Defendants, encompassing the White House and federal agencies, to stifle speech based on its content.

It is important to note that the judge has not yet issued a final verdict. The initial report on the injunction was published by the Washington Post.
