Coach Vlatko Andonovski made just one change during the game, and Rapinoe believed she could have contributed to a more favorable outcome for the team. 

This wasn't the first time she found herself on the bench; previously, she had also started as a substitute in the USWNT's Group E opener against Vietnam.

The win was within our reach. I don't think the players on the field were slacking; they gave their all and kept creating chances until the very end. Unfortunately, we just couldn't find that final goal.

Coach Andonovski knows every substitute is eager to play. He explained to the media that he believed we had the momentum, and ultimately, it was his call. The players on the sidelines also had faith in the ones on the field to score."
