According to sources close to the situation, Jaxson Hayes, a free agent center, has reached a two-year agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The deal includes a player option for the second year, as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hayes, who is 23 years old, has demonstrated glimpses of his talent since being selected as the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. 

However, he has struggled to establish himself as a consistent player over his four seasons in the league.

During the previous season, Hayes saw the least amount of playing time in his career, averaging only 13 minutes per game and appearing in just 47 games for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Standing at 6-foot-11, Jaxson Hayes is known for his impressive athleticism and ability to finish around the rim. 

Throughout his career, he has maintained a shooting percentage of over 75% within 3 feet of the basket and has demonstrated proficiency in hitting shots from the floater range, typically between 3 to 10 feet.

However, his development in the realm of three-point shooting is still a work in progress, and there remains uncertainty regarding his optimal defensive position—whether as a power forward or a center.

During his freshman year at the University of Texas, Hayes showcased his skills and earned recognition with All-Big 12 honors in 2019.

The signing of Hayes by the Lakers adds to their active free agency period, following their agreements with Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, and Cam Reddish, which were announced on Friday.
