Today, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally awarded the esteemed Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award-2023 to a total of 10 remarkable sports figures and acknowledged the significant achievements of two distinguished organizations.
This recognition is a testament to their exceptional dedication and invaluable contributions across eight distinct categories within the realm of sports.
On the commemoration of the 74th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the firstborn son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she graciously bestowed the accolades upon the triumphant recipients.
The event took place at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports collaborating alongside the National Sports Council to orchestrate the program.
Abdus Sadek, the inaugural captain of the Bangladeshi national hockey team, has been selected as a nominee for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sabina Khatun, the esteemed captain of the women's football team, along with the renowned cricketer Taskin Ahmed, and the distinguished weightlifter Ziaur Islam, who secured the South Asian gold medal, were honored in the sportsperson category.
Recognizing exceptional talent, the emerging athlete award was bestowed upon the accomplished Table Tennis player, Muhtasin Ahmed Hriday, and the skilled hockey player, Amirul Islam.
The awards in the sports organizer category were deservedly granted to the dedicated grassroots hockey organizer, Ustad Fazlu, as well as the esteemed principal of Kalsindur Govt School and College, Mala Rani Sarker.
Adding to the accolades, Khandakar Tarek M Nurullah was rightfully acclaimed with the sports journalist award, celebrating his invaluable contributions.

The honor of the sports association/federation/organization award was bestowed upon the Bangladesh Archery Federation, while the sports sponsor award found its recipient in the Bangladesh Association of Banks.
In a groundbreaking move, the ministry has introduced a new category for sports commentators in the NSC awards. The inaugural winner of this category is the renowned former national cricketer and cricket commentator, Atahar Ali Khan.
Each awardee will be granted a prize of Tk 1 lakh, accompanied by a prestigious crest and an official certificate.
This distinguished award, established in 2021, is a testament to the dedication of the Ministry of Youth and Sports towards recognizing excellence in the realm of sports.
