Dengue Cases Soar in Dhaka: 11 Areas Hit Hardest, Urgent Anti-Mosquito Measures Required
Health officials at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed alarming statistics during a recent online briefing. The majority of dengue patients seeking treatment in various hospitals across Dhaka hail from 11 specific areas within the city.
Dhaka South City Corporation is facing the brunt of the outbreak, with six of the affected areas falling under its jurisdiction. The remaining five areas are under the administration of Dhaka North City Corporation.

The affected zones in Dhaka South City Corporation include Jatrabari, Mugda, Kadamtali, Jurain, Dhanmondi, and Basabo. On the other hand, Uttara, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Tejgaon, and Badda are among the affected regions in Dhaka North City Corporation.
Typically, Bangladesh experiences an increase in dengue cases from June, peaking in August or September, with additional spikes in July and November. However, this year, the rise in cases began as early as May.
To combat the escalating situation, the authorities have urgently requested both city corporations to intensify their anti-mosquito activities in the affected areas.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 30,685 people have been afflicted by dengue, with 18,885 cases reported within Dhaka and 11,800 outside the city, according to the DGHS official.
Tragically, the death toll from dengue in Bangladesh has reached 167 this year, with eleven more fatalities reported by the DGHS just yesterday.
Distressingly, July alone has accounted for 120 deaths, setting a new record for the highest number of deaths from dengue in a single month. The situation demands immediate attention and action to protect public health.
