Approximately 2.5 million Bangladeshis are currently without jobs, marking a difference from the 2.59 million unemployed during the initial quarter of this year


As of the second quarter of the current calendar year (April-June), Bangladesh's unemployed population stands at 2.5 million, showing a decrease from the 2.59 million reported in the preceding January-March quarter.


According to recent statistics released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), there has been a noteworthy decline in unemployment figures. 


During the second quarter of this year, the number of unemployed individuals in the country decreased by 90,000, representing a significant drop of 3.47% compared to the previous quarter.


Additionally, as per the second quarterly Labour Force Survey 2023 conducted by BBS, the figure for the April-June quarter is 2.34% lower than the corresponding period of the previous year, standing at 2.56 million.

Furthermore, in the same April-June quarter of 2023, the count of unemployed men reduced by 2.34% to reach 1.67 million when compared to the preceding three months.


Simultaneously, there was a 5.68% reduction in the count of unemployed women, resulting in a total of 830,000 individuals no longer being unemployed.
