Samsung has rolled out a fresh update for the Camera Assistant app, introducing an innovative zoom function to the Galaxy S23 lineup.

As outlined in the update's release notes, the Galaxy S23 series now gains access to an optimized 2x zoom setting within the Photo mode of the stock camera application.


The latest iteration of the Camera Assistant app, identified by version number 1.1.03.1, has been officially launched and is accessible through the Galaxy Store. 


The detailed release notes specify that the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra models have all integrated a dedicated toggle for 2x zoom functionality within the stock Camera app.

It's essential to ensure that the devices are running the August 2023 security patch to enable this new camera feature. 


To activate the feature, users are advised to navigate to the Camera Assistant app's settings and toggle the Optical Quality Crop Zoom option.

Although users were previously able to utilize zoom levels up to 30x on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, and up to 100x on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this newly introduced 2x zoom alternative showcases an improved experience. 


The enhancement is achieved through on-sensor cropping, utilizing the primary camera sensor on the devices. 


Samsung asserts that the quality of this zoom should closely resemble that of a conventional optical zoom lens, comparable to 3x and 10x optical zoom cameras.

Discussions regarding this feature have been ongoing for several months, culminating in Samsung's official release today.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S23 series has already begun

receiving the initial One UI 6.0 beta update, hinting at the likelihood of the stable version being deployed by early Q4 2023.
