July 24 (Reuters) - Tragic Loss of Beloved Personal Chef Linked to Former President Barack Obama's Family, Found Deceased in Martha's Vineyard Lake


Tafari Campbell, 45, a dedicated sous chef who had served at the White House and later became the cherished personal chef to former President Barack Obama's family, was recovered from the waters of Edgartown Great Pond in Martha's Vineyard. 


Authorities confirmed that Campbell, an avid paddle boarder, had been the subject of a two-day search after witnesses reported seeing him struggling in the water near the Obamas' residence on Sunday evening.

Having joined the Obamas after the completion of Barack Obama's second term in 2016, Campbell had quickly become an integral part of the family, as expressed by the former President and his wife, Michelle Obama, in a heartfelt statement released on Monday. 


They fondly remembered him as not just a culinary talent but a warm, fun, and exceptionally kind individual who brightened their lives.


The search for Campbell commenced immediately after receiving the distress call on Sunday, with divers tirelessly scouring the lake, but tragically, he did not resurface.

The loss of Tafari Campbell has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and his legacy as a culinary artist and a remarkable human being will forever be cherished.


The Massachusetts State Police reported that the remains of Campbell were discovered in Edgartown Great Pond on Monday.


Survived by his wife, Sherise, and twin sons, the Obamas expressed their grief over the loss.

During the unfortunate incident, Campbell was visiting Martha's Vineyard from his residence in Dumfries, Virginia. It's important to note that the Obamas were not present at the location during this time.
